Move to Canada?

Fox News reports on The Real ID Act.

Some excerpts:

Under the measure[the federally mandated Real ID Act], your new drivers’ license — the one you’ll be required to get starting in 2008 — will take a lot of work on your part. And, if you don’t get it done, you can forget about flying on an airplane, opening a bank account, collecting social security and for that matter taking advantage of many government services. You’ll have a heck of a time getting into a federal building too.

Under Big Brother‘s guidelines, each Real ID will be encoded on a strip in the back with a lot of our personal information. At a minimum: name, birth date, sex, ID number, a digital photograph, address, will be included and “scannable” on Real ID cards. Big Brother may also add additional requirements — such as a fingerprint or retinal scan. Big Brother‘s Real ID cards are an identity theft just waiting to happen….

James Sensenbrenner and George W. Bush should both be booted out of office.

Republican Sen. John Sununu of New Hampshire, along with Democratic Sen. Daniel Akaka of Hawaii, filed a bill last year to repeal the law. Sununu expects similar legislation will be introduced soon.

Missouri state Rep. James Guest, a Republican, formed a coalition of lawmakers from 34 states to file bills that oppose or protest Real ID.

“This is almost a frontal assault on the freedoms of America when they require us to carry a national ID to monitor where we are,” Guest said in an interview Saturday. “That’s going too far.”

Guest filed a resolution last week opposing Real ID and said he expects it quickly to pass the Legislature. This does nothing to stop terrorism,” he said. “Don’t burden the American people with this requirement to carry this ID.”

“The federal government should not be in charge of defining and issuing drivers’ licenses,” Sununu said in a statement.

I thought that each of the fifty states were in the Union on a voluntary basis. I guess the United States of America – once “The Home of the Free” – has been transformed into Oceania under the tyranny of Big Brother.

Considering the abuses of power by George W. Bush and the Department of Homeland Security, the idea of permanently moving to Canada seems very appealing….
